Race Day 2 - January 20
Light flukey winds caused the RC to abandon, in the last minute of the countdown, it's first attempt at getting a race started. Fortunately the winds filled (?) in and decided on just one direction and the fleet was off. The first race was a simple windward/leeward and took 90-120 minutes. Shortly after the last boat finished the RC started the sequence for the final race, a downwind start heading to Gallows and back up into the harbour to finish off the NYC docks. It was another long drawn out affair despite the short distance but fortunately the sun came out and the racers didn't seem to mind as much that they were going a lot less than hull speed. Hot chili and lots of laughs made for a great time in the clubhouse.

Race Day 3 - February 3
Light winds were once again the story of the day. The first race turned out to be too ambitious an affair and the RC ended up abandoning the race. Chastened they set a much shorter course, with a downwind start heading to PL (the Cardinal Buoy off of Horsewell Reef) and then back to the start/finish line. With time ticking and the Super Bowl kickoff looming the final race of the day was set to head back upwind to Gallows Point and then run downwind in the harbour to finish off of the Nanaimo Yacht Club docks. After a general recall on the first attempt, the fleet got off all clear on the second go round and the race was on. Tacking close to the islands seemed to be the best bet for avoiding the current and eventually all the boats made it back into the club house with plenty of time to grab a good viewing seat for the game.

Race Day 5 - March 3
Racers who showed up today for the final race day in the NYC 2013 Winter Series were finally rewarded with strong winds and sunny skies which put smiles on everyone's faces by day's end. Ken and Robbie on the RC boat, a Cal 25, endured "bouncy" conditions and managed to get 2 races in for both fleets. Fortunately a number of freighters anchored off of Protection and Newcastle Islands made their job a little easier as they utilized them for rounding marks. You would think that large ship would garner a bit of respect when rounding it but that wasn't always the case. Incident free everyone gathered in the NYC Clubhouse for some post race banter and some libations, thanks to Courtney's newly acquired Serve it Right certification.
